On a dramatically sloping site in Paddington, Brisbane, this design focuses on enhancing the value of the existing residence, celebrating the expansive city views & transforming under-utilised spaces into a functional, cohesive plan.
Drawing inspiration from Mediterranean outdoor living, the design evolved from the concept of a cabana over the outdoor terrace; a sheltered retreat, open to views and breezes whilst offering protection from Queensland’s summer sun.
A moveable shade canopy structure defines the terrace, operable in response to elements. From the street, the structure offers a constantly shifting façade, providing visual interest & celebrating outdoor living.
On the upper levels, operable vertical shutters provide the second dynamic element of the design. The adjustable screens respect privacy from neighbouring properties while maintaining natural ventilation and a connection to the surrounding environment.
Together, these interventions establish a sense of calm adaptability, balancing functionality with architectural expression.
