The brief for this new renovation / extension called for a multi-generational home for 2 families relocating home from Sydney back to Brisbane.
Rather than demolish the existing house on the site, we proposed to retain it & renovate the interior & extend to the rear, which assisted in keeping budget on track. A courtyard style home designed around a significant gum tree will sit beyond the existing renovated house & include a pool, fire pit / chimney.
Key design ideas included allowing spaces for privacy as well as coming together as a family. The outdoor room acts as the heart between the two homes, providing a space for the family to enjoy a BBQ & relax by the pool.
The extension ties into the aesthetic of the existing home at the front, incorporating white weatherboard with contemporary touches throughout.
At the street front, a contemporary terracotta breezeblock has been utilised to create a secure line, sympathetic to the existing terracotta tile roofing.
At the rear, aluminium sunshading is also inspired by the terracotta theme, while timber ceiling highlights & hit & miss brickwork wrap the outdoor room space.
